SASWelcome to this new page for SAS ENT surgeons. These are changing times for SAS surgeons and this page will aim to keep you informed of the issues that affect you. You can also read about the recently formed ENT.UK SAS group, and their work on behalf of ENT.UK Members. Your representatives on this group are Dr Laurie Baxter (Chair), Mr Tapas Goswami, Mr Yohanna Takwoingi,Mr Giri Wijayasingam. A pressing matter for many is the possibility of applying to join the specialist register under article 14, via PMETB. The group is exploring what the criteria for acceptance are likely to be, and how best to advise members of ENT.UK on their applications. Minutes of meetings The SAS Committee SAS ENT surgeons are a diverse group including Staff Grades, Associate Specialists, the new Specialty Doctors, Hospital Practitioners, Senior Clinical Medical Officers, Clinical Medical Officers, Clinical Assistants and non-training Trust Grades. We work within hospital teams, developing skills through experience and further professional development. We provide a significant proportion of 'service' and often go unrecognised and unrewarded. The SAS Committee works to promote better understanding of the needs of this group and the valuable contributions they make. At present, the SASC is working on a number of 'projects' including: a. Establishing an ENT SAS database b. Providing a useful up-to-date ENT UK SASC webpage c. Representing SAS ENT colleagues on ENT UK committees eg. Education and Training, BACO, Council d. Contributing to current debate and information on SAS issues in the ENT UK Newsletter e. Lobbying for more transparency with SAS representation in the Article 14 process f. Trial of a mentoring program g. Liasing with our senior and junior colleagues to promote better understanding and team-working eg participation at AOT meetings We hope that by giving you a greater voice in our Specialty Organisation that SAS ENT Surgeons will be part of the planning for effective ENT care delivered by competent valued teams of colleagues.
